Project Reveal: Sam Monroe
Sam Monroe is a drummer, instructor and composer based in Washington, D.C. He has played with bands around the world and has a heart for teaching and encouraging aspiring musicians.
When Sam contacted me about creating a website, he knew he wanted a hub to discuss various concepts and theories, and a place to provide online instructional videos to help young artists grow in their talent and love for music.
To kickoff his project, I forwarded Sam a brief questionnaire and we began discussing his ideas, budget and timeline. I was excited to turn his vision into reality, and began drafting a contract that outlined the details of his customized solution.
Proposed contracts are something I provide to each client and consider to be a crucial first step in ensuring everyone is starting on the same page with a clear vision for moving forward. Each contract outlines the specifics of a project including its scope of work, deliverables, deadlines, and fees. Once Sam was given his contract to review, I was delighted to receive its immediate approval.
To begin designing Sam's website, I created a few placeholder images to relay the look of his site along with a wireframe of how it would all be laid out. As with every client, I researched his industry's standards, took note of what works and what I thought we could improve upon.
As Sam's site began to evolve, he asked if we could incorporate one of his drawings in some way. He didn't necessarily want a logo, but had an idea for a sketch he thought might be fun to include. Although I prefer to design client logos from scratch, I loved the idea of being able to digitalize Sam's sketch, add a little polish, and include it as part of his brand.
Sam decided to draw himself playing the drums with one of his beloved pugs curled around a stand, and as soon as I saw it, I knew it would work. I decided to incorporate a digitized version of his sketch in the footer of his website and also on his business card.

If there's one thing I've learned about marketing and design, it's that each client is unique. Too often, marketing and design companies try to fit their clients into a neat little box, but I prefer creating customized solutions that are best for each client.

To close out Sam's project, I provided him a with a launch kit to showcase his new website, a digital folder with all of of his project's deliverables, and a brief questionnaire to learn his thoughts on how he thought his project went. Below are his responses.
Is there anything about your project or the process that surprised you? "Just how much goes into making a great website." How do you feel about your project results? Feel free to get specific on any details you wish to share. "I feel great! I'm very excited to share my results and ideas with a larger audience." Would you recommend Six40 Marketing to others? If so, what would you tell them about your project and/or experience? "Yes! The process is taken very seriously and well thought out. You were very professional, patient and informative with a crazy artist like me." Learn more about Sam's project deliverables on my portfolio page here. |
